ABOUT TE ATA GLOBAL

Born in Aotearoa. Built from the classroom.

Practical, culturally grounded learning that honours every learner.

THE KAUPAPA

Learning should begin with identity, belonging and relationship.

Te Ata Global is an Aotearoa-born education kaupapa founded by Matua Kevin—a Māori primary kaiako, former soldier and lifelong learner committed to practical, culturally grounded education.

WHY TE ATA GLOBAL BEGAN

Culture should shape learning from the beginning.

In learning environments, culture is often treated as something educators add: a special week, an isolated activity, a translated greeting or a finished plan given a cultural layer. The intention may be positive, but learners can still be asked to fit into learning that was never shaped with them in mind.

Matua Kevin believes learning should begin from a different place: identity, belonging, relationships and the knowledge learners already carry.

Matua Kevin, founder of Te Ata Global.

FROM THE CLASSROOM

What the classroom revealed.

In his bilingual learning environment, Māori and English sit alongside learners from different nationalities. Tamariki learn te reo Māori and engage with tikanga Māori as part of living and learning in Aotearoa. Their own names, languages, stories, families and cultures are also honoured.

Honouring one culture does not require diminishing another. Strong grounding can create more room for every learner to belong.

THE NAME

What Te Ata means.

Te Ata means the dawn—a new beginning, possibility and the gradual arrival of light. It reflects TAG’s belief that meaningful change can begin with one question, one relationship and one practical shift.

WHAT TAG IS BUILDING

Practical support for a wider educational approach.

Te Ata Global is growing from practical resources into a wider educational approach supported by Kōrero & Create™, classroom examples, professional learning, digital tools and the future TAG Classroom platform.

The kaupapa remains constant: practical, culturally grounded learning that honours every learner.
